Check It: Broken Bells

March 1st, 2010 by DonnyG

James Mercer of the Shins & Danger Mouse have a collabo effort releasing in mid March. From what I’ve listened to so far it should be one of those nice weather, outside drinking, good-feeling, spring-time albums. It’s currently streaming free on NPR & Myspace. Hit the links below and check it out for yourself.

Great Lakes Approves: Beirut

February 22nd, 2010 by FramezMadison

Check this shit out!!! it is incredible!

Hailing from Santa Fe, is Beirut.  Yes they are out of the Great Lakes Region, but definitely due to sweetness deserve our approval.

the musicality is great, main instruments range from accordions, fuglehorns, mandolins, ukuleles, glockenspiels, organs, garbage cans, and tambourines. These guys play it all and it sounds great!!

Do Artists Make More Money Off Illegal Music?

November 13th, 2009 by MoPrice

music_pirate

Here is a very interesting study done by PRS for Music and the BPI chronicling music industry revenues for the past five years. Apparently artists aren’t losing much money from file-sharing; it’s the record labels that are. Oh, what a drag, dude!

You can read about the study here.

Here at Great Lakes Academy, our new mix tape, The Land of The Lakes, is free to download! So feel free to bootleg all you want.  ;)

“Gettin Down in the Land OF The Lakes”

October 12th, 2009 by FramezMadison

New York stylist, recording artist, and scene blogger Richard Kennedy of the House of Bad Kids posted a review of the Land of the Lakes to his blog.

Here is an excerpt of the post! check it out.

“”The Land of the Lakes” takes you on a musical journey true to your mind, body, and soul. Opening with “Rich & Famous” I was immediately drawn into the reality of artistic youth. We all struggle everyday with the basic necessity of life and those of us who have a little more to say, a little extra to offer, a world to change struggle with the constant possibility of “failure” due to the lack of listener. These cats are clearly in it to win it, and offering a FREE download is such a great way to encourage listening and inspire change.”
